The Vineyard
Located in the west of Châteauneuf-du-Pape on light, sandy soils that are a specific feature of the Appellation, the Marcel Georges vineyard was created and is growing in the hands of its creator, wine-grower Marcel Georges.
In this family operation, thirty years of experience goes into producing its rich, well-balanced multi-varietal wine (blend). The vineyard grows eight red grape varieties – Syrah, Mourvèdre, Muscardin, Counoise, Cinsault, Grenache, Vaccarese, and Terret – and five white varieties – Picardan, Roussanne, Clairette, Picpoul, and white Grenache – together, these form the ‘symphony of the 13 varieties’ that is a particular feature of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape Appellation.
The vineyard is cultivated according to the principles of ‘sustainable agriculture’, which take account of the constraints associated with the preservation of the environment. 2009 is the first year we are converting to organic wine growing.
The area it has under cultivation, around average for properties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, is enabling the vineyard to develop in a traditional manner.
